During the last three months we worked on a new version of the OpenXML/ODF Translator Add-ins for Office. Why are we releasing version 3.0 only four months after publishing version 2.5?

Office 2007 SP2 will ship with a new feature: ODF version 1.1 documents can be opened or saved natively in Microsoft Office. So, we wanted to make sure that the translator is ready before Office 2007 SP2 is released to ensure the best experience across the translation scenarios.

In a nutshell, version 3.0 focuses on ODF 1.1 conformance and on Office 2007 SP2 compatibility.

In addition, several bugs have been fixed and the translation quality of some features has been improved. As already described in the previous blog entry, several formula languages are now supported. Freeform shape translation has been implemented in order to support ODF shapes created by Office 2007 SP2. We were also able to further improve the performance of the DOCX/ODT translator, in particular for big documents having lots of text.

We hope that the enhancements in version 3.0 of the OpenXML/ODF Translator meet your needs. Supporting different flavours of the ODF and the OpenXML standards is one more step towards interoperability. We are looking forward to receiving your feedback and feature requests to find again the right road for future developments
